Engine bay

Post by theotherjohn » 30 Sep 2012, 14:27

Was having a look around under the bonnet & suddenly realised that the engine bay is just matt primer! Not too obvious on my silver car, must look at others when I'm next at the dealer although I can't believe that mine would be singled out to save a gloss (or is it the clear laquer?) coat.

I have noticed on most BMW's that the engine bay is just sprayed very badly with paint and not laquerd.
In some there are paint runs on the turrets and looks really bad.

I have to use tyre gel on the paint in the bay to make it look as shiny as the outside.

Most BMWs do indeed to be only 'superficially' finished under the bonnet. Even my E63 which was probably a £60k when new (long before I had it!) although body coloured was matte finish. I thought it was the waxy coating but when I eventually got that off......it wasn't finished in clearcoat!

I would have expected some paint though as undercoat/primer is porous..........
