2010 1 series hatchback - battery replacement.

Post by Gus247 » 09 Jan 2013, 19:42

evening all, little out of my depth here and dabbling in the waters of very unfamiliar territory but my neighbour across the road has a 2010 1 series (actually his wifes) and needs to replace the battery.... he was going to do it this weekend (even borrowed some sockets from me to do the job...).. Got a text from him earlier asking if I could give him a hand. A little surprised, I popped over to see him this evening and he said that he'd read something online about some setting on the OBC that would need to be activated to advise the car that it has a new battery installed?

I did wonder if there was some kind of 'prep' mode that would notify the car that the battery is about to disconnected so things like the radio code (if they still have such a thing) etc. would be preserved....

Knowing there are a few 1'er aficionados on here, I told him I'd stick a post up and let the powers that be answer all his concerns....

anyone got any idea????

Not done it mate - sorry.

Later models do have a battery condition mode which supposedly needs some fancy stuff when changing the battery......the E63/64 had this, yet I changed mine 'the old-fashioned way' without problem.

2010 model needing a new battery? I'd be knocking at BMW UK via my local dealer? Are you sure it doesn't just need charging and even so - why?

Cheers Neal... I'm pretty sure it's a 2010 model (although I'd have to go to the trouble of getting off my ar5e and looking out of the front window to confirm!! :)) ) .... What's the warranty period on batteries then? Apparently his wife only does short journeys (less than 2 miles each way so I guess it could potentially be this that is making appear that there is a battery problem as it's not getting a decent enough chance to charge???)....

I'll double check the year and confirm....
