Iphone, Ipod, andriod, mp3 device connecting to ANY BMW

Postby gsp36 » 23 May 2013, 07:28

Hi guys

I've been looking into connecting my Iphone into the stereo but without loosing the CD function (6 changer in the boot).

Anyway I've found a relatively cheap solution and it works great.

I bought mine from Halfords for £35 but ive seen them on Amazon since then for £25

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-F8Z179eaSTD-TuneFM3-without-CLA/dp/B001T9N4HC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369293752&sr=8-1&keywords=belkin+tunefm

all you do is start your music playing one your ipod or iphone, connect the Belkin TuneFM, press the button on the side of the Belkin unit. this will give you a frequency the unit is send the music out on. Tune your car stereo to this frequency. that's it, jobs a good en.

I am quite impressed with it, its not perfect sound but good enough for me. I've only had interference once or trice which lasted seconds.

Thanks for sharing Gareth, I'm thinking maybe this thread could be used for all tips regarding phone / mp3 connection via the car stereo and made into a sticky if you're happy with that mate?

Then people can post up their own tips and solutions on here too

I have a similar piece of equipment I bought about 2 years ago from Dixon's for around £55 , which
does the same sorta thing . I've found it very good and also can't complain with it's functions . It has
a choice of 3 frequencies you can choose from , or you can type in your own if you know a free/good
frequency .

A bit of looking on internet produced a hit on Amazon at just £29 these days . Another option to look
at perhaps .

Bit of a different one for those wanting to do away with the traditional head unit. Not tried and tested yet but keep an eye out for my project thread in June for this one.

This little piece of kit:

Allows you to split the mic and the speaker output from your phone. The plan is to turn the phone into the head unit which will then run sat nav and also my phone calls whilst on the go. The mic input allows me to get a decent mic hidden somewhere around the drivers side dash and then the output for the speakers will go through EQ > Amp > speakers - I'll be starting a separate thread next month for a little advice for getting the right equipment.

Something different I know but might interest some

I have gone a similar route, as the first two options, purchased mine earlier this month. It also provides scrolling txt on and RDS of the track details.... Well impressed. Will get some pics up and details later as at work now. ;-)

Ok so this is my Belkin which I picked up for £40 at the beginning of the month, it is specifically for apple products,

This pic shows the little tuner box and how I have it rigged to my phone (running a sat nav app) ignore the second dock connector, it is due to my case:

I like how the tuner graphic is a good match for BMW dash colours... :-)

Next up are two pics of the head unit showing that the transmission from the unit includes RDS info on the track and the artist playing, sweet! And yes I have just found out that the head unit is actually originally from a Rover (gutted) and not a BMW as I had been lead to believe......

And artist, hey I thought the music was appropriate.
