Ticking noise

Okay forgive me if this is a stupid question but I'm not the best when it comes to parts of the engine..
Can anyone tell me what the circled part is? And is it supposed to make a ticking sound?
When I turn on the ignition it makes a loud tick every 4 seconds
It's an m52b25

The car isn't running properly at the moment and from what I can gather it's most likely either a vacuum leak or a duff sensor.. could this be the cause?

Thanks guys

I believe that's the water valve which is hooked up to the heating / AC system.

I believe so, doesn't sound like this is your problem in terms of car running
