Yes but I recommend you have a dealer do it, update over OBD can take up to 10 hours (OBD data transfer is about as fast as a 3 toed sloth) during which time the car needs to be hooked up to an 80A 12v power supply, you will also lose voice control if you have it and to restore it you need to buy an FSC code from BMW at an eyewatering price and no guarantee from them it will work, also if the update fails (quite common) you can end up with a brick.
Takes about an hour at the dealers as they do it by Ethernet or Fibre optic.

Thanks maxwell does that go the same for map updates so I can get full postcodes

That can be done by simply buying the latest map disc and installing it. Usually comes with the latest firmware.
