2004 BMW 645ci Vert - getting rid of dashboard vibration

Post by Lewy » 24 Oct 2011, 12:41

With my stiffer suspension and exhaust virbations, I'm starting to notice more vibrations from the dash, any ideas how to fix or sound proof? Cheers, Lewy

Sadly, may just be the change in temperature - colder nights, as it lives outside - right? Contraction of materials leaves play between surfaces.

You need to try and narrow it down. otherwise it's a case of either tightening up every conceivable fixing, or removing/refitting everything....and there's a lot of fixings and everythings.....

evening fellas

early last week i noticed some new creaking/ rubbing noises coming from (not me for a change) but somewhere around the center of the dash . i thought it was coming from the dash but when i tried pushing the dash about a bit i couldnt get the noise to re occur.
it was noticed alot more when going over bumps and in particular moving off n on drive. (as the body twisted i guess ) i was beginning to assume the worse.
then this morning the wife takes the carpet commando's to school and on her return all hell breaks loose on the screen
she couldnt remember exactly what it said . but something along the lines of "STOP IMMEDIATELY suspension oil ? active steering oil ??? .
she cracked on SLOOOWLY back to the house and woke me up . when i went out restarted car all messages had gone ??? i went for drive and although the noise was there i didnt get no messages up ???
so ... i get online and search around various forums
and before you all fall asleep i found out that
"THE BAR " RED IN THE PIC WAS LOOSE
i tightened all the torx bolts X4 GREEN IN PIC.
( had to remove micro filter boxes and other bits) BLUE IN THE PIC to get to 2 bolts.
but since then no more noise

some people did say that they got a clunking every now n then too but i guess i caught mine before it got toooo loose

so far no noise and no dash messages (fingers crossed)

Image

hope this helps mate, the noise i got was coming from near the mid of dash

deffo worth a try. and dont be tempted to just try the easy to get to ones

Thanks for this Mark, I'm off all next week so I'll give it a try, can't hurt anyway.

I am getting a creaking as well as the dash vibrations when I steer at low speed. Maybe this will help?
