White smoke

Post by Stevieboy33 » 07 Jan 2018, 05:10

Hi there. Ive got a e91 320i its started smoking from exhaust. White i think. Also leaking oil. You can smell it in the cab after a while. Also poor fuel consumption. Any ideas? After reading online ive bought oil separator valve and hoses to go with it, was wondering if im on the right path or barking up the wrong tree?

White smoke is often a symptom of oil and water mixing (under pressure) and being combusted in a cylinder (or more) - in plain English, head gasket or cracked head. Rather than throw any more money at it, suggest you get a sniff test done and find out for sure.

If I were you I'd take it to the garage as it is, they need to see her as she is, but take the bits you've bought with you.

Update now is, its been at garage. Its not the head gasket or the valve seals. The white smoke is water they have told me to keep and eye on coolant. Seems as though exhaust is blowing out water. There is still the oil leak they would start with rocker cover gasket..... I think ill start with the parts i bought and do the rocker cover. Any more ideas would be much appreciated. Forgot to mention they dont know were oil leak is coming from the engine is covered in it.
