E36 328i convertible (Discowifey's car)

Post by Discostew38 » 17 Dec 2016, 18:16

The story
So disco wifey has decided she wants another convertible (had a E46 330i in the past)
The last one was a bit average we ended up spending lots on it and in the end it was sold as a Disappointment
as far as I was concerned she only had a choice of 4

1) E36 6 cylinder manual 1999/2000 so the last of the E36s but it had to be mint or cheap enough to make mint
2) E46 330i manual
3) E46 M3 manual gearbox only
4) Mercedes SL500 (90s 129 shape) the last of the well built Mercedes

All of the above except the 330i hold there money well and will appreciate in value
A good M3 convertible is out of the price range so that got crossed off straight away
She couldn't afford the fuel bill on the Mercedes and the smaller engines like the 2.8 and 3.0 are feeble so that got crossed off the list
I don't like E46s that much (for lots of reasons) the good ones are expensive the cheap ones are crap and there still loosing money on top of the fact she had already owned a 330i cab before and wasn't keen on getting another one so that got crossed off to
Which only left the E36 so that is what we bought
( photos to come )

Cool looking forward to seeing the new addition! Had the roof down on Ruth's M3 last week, 3 degrees but bright sunny day. Heated seats a big help there!

The starting point is good
It has the colour interior she wanted (very important) it needs a bit of tidying to get it spot on but no rips or holes I'm going to see if I can get the seats re-dyed
It hads a hard top but the soft top is tatty so we're going to get a new mohair hood
I'm not sure if the wheels are right for this model/year so we're going to get what I think are the right ones 16"
Has some stone chips on the front bumper so going to replace that with a sport bumper
Clutch works fine but it's a bit high so may do that while I'm doing the rest
Need to adjust the door glass to fix a wind noise
Other bits to do are just service items and silly bits and bobs
Best of all NO rust
Full service history
Cruise control
Heated seats
Driver passenger and side air bags
Fake wood trim
Air con
M sport steering wheel
Harman kardon sound system
All 5 keys
Factory alarm
Drove it 170 miles home and it drives really nice
So all in all happy with the car and even more happy with the price

Looks like the 330d will be up for sale next year

The wheels look right for the year to me........could be wrong though! Love em on BBS's, not so keen on them on E46 alloys. Apart from the 17" seven spokes...they look good.

You could well be right this was one I had before and it had these wheels it was 2 years older and my touring had the same wheels when I bought it to so I thought this should of had the same 16" alloys

Bbs wheels do look good but expensive and hard to keep clean so as much as I'd like them bit impractical for Mrs disco
