Hi - new boy here. Looking at getting my first BMW - well, 4 wheels this time as I've had a couple of motorbikes in a previous life!

Looking at a 330d x-drive touring - I'm after a bit of performance as well as practicality, and probably used approved.

It all seems a bit puzzling as everyone talks about them by model numbers (eg E46) - I think the one I am looking at is an F31. Then there are all sorts of engine codes. I've also heard previously about BMW diesel EGR/swirl flap issues but as far as I can see these engines do not have that problem (or swirl flaps?)

The only other concern is the lack of a spare wheel, and whether there is room to carry a spare - preferably full sized.
