Collecting my new BMW from Germany

Post by Benet » 08 Dec 2017, 13:34

I was disappointed that I can’t collect my new i3 from the factory. BMW are keen to offer a tour, but apparently collection from Leipzig is simply impossible. A great shame, since I would love to bust the “range myth” by telling my friends I drove it home from the factory. BMW tell me I would have to collect from their theme park in Munich, which I bet will be all about their internal combustion vehicles with the EV as an afterthought.

Has anyone else been to Germany for their BMW?

You can only collect from BMW Welt in Munich which is essentially just a showroom for the latest cars, I was there last week and they do have the i3 and i8 on display. The museum over the road is ok but there is a distinct lack of M cars and electric models.

That would need to be a well planned route to charge it surely?

I've never had a new car and I'm unlikely to
A tour around the factory sounds really interesting and I'd be up for that but I couldn't be bothered with the drive even if it was only one way

I used to go to the Nurburgring every year but soon got bored with the drive there and back
The drive outweighed the whole social side of the weekend and the fun track bit
So I don't go anymore
Life's to short to be driving boring cars
It's all about the old school
